Celebrating 1 Million Students

By the end of the 2016-2017 school year, we will have reached our 1 millionth student! To celebrate this milestone, we're journeying throughout our expanded learning schools network to get to know some of our students.

STEM Educators Academy Research Brief | Resource Guide

This paper reports on the promising findings of our STEM Educators Academy, an ExpandED Schools initiative where classroom teachers and after-school educators engage in joint professional development at premiere science institutions and then work together back at their schools to teach maker-design projects that spark student interest and cultivate curiosity in STEM subjects.

Year Four of ExpandED Schools National Demonstration: Lessons for Scale and Sustainability

Policy Studies Associates (PSA) has evaluated the national demonstration of ExpandED Schools since the demonstration, supported by The Wallace Foundation and others, was launched in the 2011-12 school year in 10 schools in New York City, Baltimore and New Orleans. Over four years, the evaluation explored the approaches that participating schools took to adopting the ExpandED Schools model, in particular seeking to understand the conditions that support—or hinder—the implementation of an expanded day.

Every Day Is Leap Day in ExpandED Schools

Early astronomers reimagined time to give us an extra day every four years. We reimagine time to give kids extra learning every day of the week. By adding time and enrichments to the school day, we help close the learning gap. It’s like every day is Leap Day in ExpandED Schools.

More and Better Learning: Year Three Report on ExpandED Schools

What we learned is that ExpandED Schools offers a powerful strategy for schools to advance their culture, foster healthy social and emotional development of young people, and promote academic progress. Over three years, as we’ve built growth mindsets in the children we educate, we have also fostered within the school communities we’ve supported a belief in their continued growth as well. These schools can assess progress and evolve, continually building skills for future success. These implementation findings are coupled with strong academic, social and emotional gains for students, and strong ratings of school climate by parents, teachers and students.

Growing an ExpandED Day: 2012 Annual Report

Remember what it was like to leave grade school for the shockingly adult life of 6th grade? You had to be alert, diligent, hardworking. You had to keep track, keep up and keep going through the highs and lows. In our 2013 Annual Report, we introduce the launch of Middle School ExTRA, one of the nation's largest efforts to re-engineer the outdated school day by focusing on this critical turning point.
