The New York City Youth Alliance is a consortium of non-profit organizations that represent and advocate on behalf of hundreds of thousands of kids and families in New York City. The Alliance monitors government spending on youth-related services and advocates for sufficient funds to provide young people with ample opportunities to excel socially and academically as they journey into adulthood.
In recent years, the Alliance has advocated for increases and improvements to New York City’s Out-of-School-Time programs so that more middle and high school students can benefit; and for increased local attention and resources to the urgent dropout problem in New York City. The Alliance advocates for schools to strengthen their ability to identify students who are at risk of dropping out, and to provide intervention and expanded services to help older youth performing at pre-GED levels improve their literacy and math skills. The Alliance advocates for New York City’s Beacon programs, which provide out-of-school-time activities in schools, to include a cost escalation clause, so that programs can cover any cost of living adjustments and rising utility costs.
